“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.” Jeremiah 17:7

I was reading different articles about why people leave the church. I wasn’t so much looking for why they leave organized religion but rather why they are no longer believers. I can across an article from Ron Wood that struck me just right. He said he has three beliefs, “Jesus is the Son of God, the Bible is the word of God, and everyone needs to be saved.” This makes me wonder if sometimes religion gets too complicated? Does the church, people of the church rather, look down on other religions? Does the church believe they are the only way to get to heaven?

Unfortunately 49% of people leaving their faith behind say it’s because they no longer believe or their isn’t enough proof that God exist. Some of these people have put their time into learning about science and evolution. So my question is, if you put as much time and energy into learning and reading the Bible would you still question God’s existence? If you went to church as regularly as you attend your college classes would you still be losing faith?

The answer is no. You wouldn’t be turning your back on your faith if you gave it the attention and time that it deserve. You would be able to recite stories from the Bible just as much as the lyrics to your favorite songs, lines from your favorite movie, or the moves to your TikTok. You would understand why God gave us Jesus. You would understand why he had to die for your sins. You would understand the grace and mercy God provides us with every day.

Just like the scripture says this that believe will be like trees and the roots will grow. Every minute you spend growing in your faith with strengthen you. It will strengthen your faith. It will grow your trust in the Lord. But just like the 49% who no longer believe, if you put your time and effort into other things your faith and trust in God will fade.

Trust in the lord our God. I pray for each of you reading this to be steadfast in your faith.
